Michael Liimatta, Principal

Michael Liimatta is a Principal with the Not-For Profit Practice of OneAccord LLC. He has served as an energetic and visionary leader in the nonprofit sector, in education and in association management for over 30 years.
He brings core competence to the revenue components of strategic planning, program evaluation, professional training, and web development & marketing. He has contributed pioneering work to internet-based distance learning and in working with organizations that help the homeless and chemically dependent.
As Founder and Director of City Vision College, an accredited online distance learning program for those involved in urban ministry, Michael grew program and donor revenue from the inside out. He supervised, recruited and trained adjunct faculty members, oversaw curriculum development, coordinated partnerships with national organizations and worked with web engineers to ensure the quality of the online learning experience. He also led the process of obtaining accreditation and federal student aid.
Previously, he spent 17 years as Director of Education for the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions. Founded in 1913, AGRM is a network of 300 organizations with over 10,000 full-time workers that help the homeless and needy in cities throughout North America. During his tenure he founded Rescue College (now City Vision College) in 1998. He also coordinated and upgraded the association’s certification program for rescue missions and managed training and networking events for its members. He spent much time consulting with mission executives in the areas of management, fund raising and program development. He also wrote a monthly column for the association’s magazine, RESCUE.
For 10 years, Michael served as founder and CEO of New Creation Center, a licensed residential addiction treatment facility for indigent men with an outpatient counseling for the chemically dependent and their family members. He developed effective counseling and treatment programs, recruited and supervised a professional staff and obtained state licensure. He also implemented a multi-faceted fundraising program that included direct mail, telemarketing, media, special events, planned giving, personal solicitation, and foundation support and organized capital campaigns for procurement and expansion of the program’s facilities.
Michael has worked as a consultant with a web development firm specializing in nonprofits. He has also served as a pastor and an addiction counselor. He has served as a board member for various not-for-profit organizations.
He has earned a B.Th. from the Inter-Lutheran Theological Seminary and has a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Administration from MidAmerica Nazarene University.
